Top 10 IT-themed films

As Vladimir Ilyich Lenin himself said, the most important of the arts for us is cinema. Therefore, we suggest you stock up on your favorite treats and choose any film about technology from our top 10.

Blade Runner (1981)

It is based on the science fiction novel by Philip K. Dick "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?", and the main role is played by Harrison Ford.

This time the actor played detective Rick Deckard, who works in a special department of the Los Angeles police and searches for replicants (artificially created people used to perform dangerous tasks and hard work). He searches for them in order to destroy them - and only those who dared to go against the system and did not want to die voluntarily after 4 years of operation.

There are several versions of the film, but two are social media marketing service considered the main ones: with an exemplary Hollywood happy ending and with an equally classic director's open ending. It is worth noting that the film received its recognition and became a classic only after some time.

In 2017, a sequel to the film was released - "Blade Runner 2049" (directed by Denis Villeneuve). And despite the box office failure, film critics highly praised the film, which became the winner of many prestigious awards.

The main philosophical question of the film is "Am I human or a replicant?" And in general, many philosophical trends can be traced here: from the rationalism of René Descartes to the superman of Friedrich Nietzsche. And if you have already watched the film, then on this site you can take the Voight-Kampff empathy test (this is what Rachel (Sean Young) took at the beginning of the film).

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

A cult science fiction film directed by Stanley Kubrick, based on the story by Arthur C. Clarke. The film was included in the US National Film Registry (only those films are included there that have historical, cultural or aesthetic significance, and also stand the test of time).

The plot is based on a space expedition to Jupiter to better understand the goals of alien beings on our planet. On board the ship are astronaut Dave Bowman (Keir Dulli) and Frank Poole (Gary Lockwood), and the superintelligent computer HAL 9000 is responsible for technical control. The film will demand your close attention, despite the complete absence of any speech in the first 20 minutes.
Interesting facts:
the English writer developed the script together with Kubrick, so the novel "2001: A Space Odyssey" was published after the film. The director himself consulted with NASA employees when creating his film, and later the space agency named its interplanetary station Mars Odyssey. And in 2011, during the trial with Apple, Samsung appealed to the fact of the similarity of iPad tablets with those used by the astronauts in Stanley Kubrick's film.

We close our classic top with the Wachowski brothers' trilogy, which marked the beginning of many cultural trends. Even if you've already watched it, the release of The Matrix: Resurrection (directed by Lana Wachowski) this December is a great reason to rewatch it. Judging by the test reviews that are already available online, the new film will be "strange and funny."

As for the beginning of the story, we are once again immersed in the world of the distant (or not so) future, where our entire reality is actually a simulation controlled by intelligent machines. The main character Neo, a full-time programmer and freelance hacker, learns the whole truth and joins the rebel fight against evil machines.

The main theme of the film caused a huge resonance and is actively discussed to this day: what is reality and what is an illusion? For example, Elon Musk is a supporter of the idea that we are already living in the real Matrix.

The theme of artificial intelligence and the perfection of the human body through technology can be seen in the filmography of American actress Scarlett Johansson.

Ghost in the Shell (2017)

American science fiction action film by Rupert Sanders about the world of the future and the influence of cybernetics. The plot is based on the popular manga by Masamune Shirow from 1989.

The main character is a young girl Mira, whose body was replaced with an artificial one after a terrorist attack on her family. So she became the world's first combat cyborg and began working in the counter-terrorism department.

If you like Japanese animation, we also recommend watching the 1995 anime series.

Her (2013)

A fantasy melodrama by Spike Jonze, which won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. The main character was played by Joaquin Phoenix. And Scarlett herself is present here as the voice for artificial intelligence.

The action also takes place in the "near future," but, unlike the previously mentioned films, this reality is closer to our own.

Theodore Twombly is a lonely, divorced writer who finds a friend and even more in Samantha, an operating system with artificial intelligence.
