All this due to their habitual failure to comply with human rights and the cruel violence with which they act, according to those who confront them, in the performance of their military activities: torture of civilians and deserters, summary trials, rapes, mutilations, beheadings, massive kidnappings, murders of women, children and the elderly, looting, robberies, destruction and burning of populations, aid to the violent repression of demonstrations against the governments that have hired them, as well as all types of barbarism imaginable, in addition to various destabilizing activities in some of the countries in which it is present (such as Libya, Syria, the Central African Republic and Ukraine). Acts attributable in any case as war crimes and crimes against human rights. Under such considerations, in May 2023, the French National Assembly proposed declaring the Wagner group a terrorist group and including it on the European list of such organizations, a measure that, although non-binding, would make it easier to sanction both its components and the linked entities, based on war crimes committed in Ukraine and Africa.
A proposal that was appreciated by the Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, who has considered Wagner an international criminal organization, petitioning other governments for the same classification. A proposal that is also born as a rejection of the anti-French rhetoric activated and expanded through social media of all kinds on the BTC Users Number Data African continent. Subsequently, at the beginning of September 2023, the Executive of the United Kingdom (UK) presented to the British Parliament a project (considered a new support for Kiev) that aims to declare illegal membership of the Wagner group, as well as its supports and financing, for being a threat to global security, a threat to democracy and freedom, both in Ukraine and, mainly, in Africa and the Middle East. Reasons why Wagner would be included in its list of terrorist organizations. Declaration of illegality, which, taking advantage of the drift in which such a group is supposed to be after the death of its leader, would try to reach all the people who support it and finance its activities under high prison sentences, as well as all its assets.
That would be confiscated, thus reaching the Kremlin/Putin (who despite its illegality has recognized on several occasions its financing with state money, its training or its support with equipment) and all the countries in which Wagner is present, after intervention agreements in security and others, under payment with natural resources. One more way to combat, in the current African Cold War, the growing Russian influence in his favor. In any case, who or who, with internationally backed authority, would arrest its leaders and confiscate their assets? Question that, for the moment, remains unanswered. Project that also adds the intention of including it on the list of terrorist organizations such as Al-Qaeda (AQ) and the Islamic State (IS); request that has not been joined, so far, by other members of the European Parliament and, of course, by any of the countries in which Wagner is established. A very contradictory request since in Sahelian Africa Wagner's men have been hired, among other reasons, to combat said terrorist groups.
